What a busy couple of weeks we have ahead of us here in Airyhall School whilst we enjoy a fun-filled Fairtrade Fortnight! Already this week the Fairtrade Committee have worked incredibly hard to put together a fantastic assembly to kick start Fairtrade Fortnight. After this, Miss Currie then shared the Fairtrade Fortnight timetable with us. We have already taken part in a ‘Beat the Banana’ activity outside. The Primary 7 boys from the Fairtrade Committee embraced the banana costume and were poised in goals over Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes.
On Tuesday the Committee came round the school with a fantastic looking ‘Fairtrade Tuck shop Trolley’. Children could buy Fairtrade snacks at a reasonable price, knowing some of their money was going back to the producer. As well as this, we welcomed Hannes Sundkvist to school from the Montgomery Development Education Centre to tell us a little more about Fairtrade. He was very busy speaking to 7 different classes and then held an assembly for the whole school. We thank him a lot for his contribution towards raising our awareness of Fairtrade.
On Wednesday the Fairtrade Committee visited nursery where they were able to share their assembly again. This was lovely timing as today there are a lot of visitors in nursery enjoying a Fairtrade coffee morning as the focus for this Fairtrade Fortnight is all about making your break fair. Soon we will collect in all competition entries and the Committee will come together and choose some winners … and that’s only the end of Week 1! Phew.
Next Thursday (9 March) parents and visitors are welcome to come and enjoy a Fairtrade break in the morning during a Fairtrade coffee morning. Please do come and see us and all the hard work the children have put in to ensuring Fairtrade Fortnight is a roaring success!
