Well we certainly have had a busy and varied timetable over the last few weeks!

The last day of term found us transported back over 100 years to our Victorian Classroom. Everyone dressed the part and took on the persona of a Victorian child/ Teacher. Our half day dramatisation of life back then certainly consolidated our learning and everyone performed their roles very effectively. Chalk boards, dunces caps, canes , lesson format and playtime activities all kept us firmly in the late 1800s. Mrs McLeish even managed to be more stern than usual!

On return from the holidays Mr Clarke joined us in class for a 4 week placement and will return to work with us in the new year for a further stint.

Our topic this term has been Artist Studies where we have been analysing, reflecting and working on two local Aberdeenshire artists, Johanna Basford, ( well known for her Mindfulness colouring books) and Iain Carby ( vibrant work taking inspiration from Miro).

The children have also been discussing and writing about the contentious debate of whether or not Art should be kept privately or on public gallery display.

The children have been working with different media, clay, acrylics, pencil and poster paint looking at the properties and challenges of each.

Running alongside our topic we have been busy with Bikeability on a Thursday afternoon. As the children have progressed we have moved from initial playground based activities out on to the road. Miss Currie had worked extremely hard and we have been lucky to have parent helpers, City Wardens and Bikeabilty experts to allow us to take part in this crucial training. The children have been working really hard at the different skills but it can be really tricky at times to link all the manoeuvres to the required level. Let’s hope the weather will be a little kinder to us to allow us to continue through the programme.

We have also been very lucky to have had visitors in World of Work Week to share their experiences within the fields of Marine Biology and Dental Nursing.

We have also set up and run our own company, Christmas Crispy Crafts Inc where we have been learning about, Marketing, Production, Quality Control, Packaging and Selling, Profit and Loss.

The children also had a visit from Cromdale staff giving them a taster session of team building activities and an information and question forum. Lots more information to follow closer to the time.

Over the next few weeks we also have two trips to Hazlehead Academy and a visit to us in class as part of our ongoing transition and preparation for Secondary School.
