Welcome back everyone!
I can’t believe how quickly this term has flown by! We have had a very busy and action packed first term and I am sure you are all looking forward to a well deserved rest.
Slopefield Open Afternoon:
A couple of weeks ago, the class took a wander up to Slopefield with lots of parents. We got to show some of the parents what we get up to on our visits there. The class got to enjoy a wander around the allotments and spent time at the bug mansion. The groups also got to help with harvesting a range of vegetables, planting strawberry cutting and helping with the compost. The children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Slopefield and look forward to returning later in the school year. I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone that came with us.
We have been extremely busy in P5W this term. The class have been very enthusiastic about their topic (a country comparison between Scotland and Australia). Over the course of this term, the children have been developing their mapping skills by labelling cities, territories and landmarks on maps. They have also carried out lots of research on landforms in Scotland and Australia. We even went outside to do some measure tasks linked to the rivers in Australia. The children have really enjoyed the Art sessions linked to this topic too. They have created some skyline drawings of Sydney and Aberdeen which are very striking. Finally, the class have created some fantastic pieces of writing linked to the country study. Namely, newspaper articles on extreme weather conditions and non-chronological reports on what life is like living in Sydney or Aberdeen.
The class really enjoyed having visitors to the class during the Open Afternoon as it allowed them to showcase the fantastic work they have been doing over the past few weeks.
Next term, our topic will be linked to ‘Enterprise’! This will link well to preparations for the festive period which will be well under way with the upcoming Christmas Fair (I can’t believe we are at the point of talking about this time of year already!). We will be preparing some tasty treats during our Enterprise topic to sell at this event. The Christmas Fair will take place on the 24th November and we look forward to seeing you there.
I am looking forward to meeting you all this week at Parent Meetings and I wish you all a very relaxing October break.
Miss Winchester 🙂
