Airyhall Pupil Groups were very pleased to be invited along to the Council Chambers today to attend the launch of the Child Friendly City initiative. We attended along with pupils from Skene Square School and St Machar Academy. All three schools presented in the chambers on the topic of pupil voice and influencing strategic decisions within their own schools. Two members from the Airyhall Pupil Council and two from the Eco Group presented very confidently. They were also allowed to take part in a vote in the chambers using the same voting system as the Councillors use. We learned about democracy and how it works in Scotland and we also met Councillor Jenny Laing who asked us for feedback about how children can be more involved in strategic decision making at council level. We even caught up with the Chief Executive Angela Scott on our way home who was keen to find out how we got on at the chambers.
Please take a look at this short film that was produced about the event.
