Airyhall pupils have been engaging with the art and design experiences and outcomes over the last few weeks. They have been learning about local and international artists and have been creating their own pieces of art work too.

At the start of this topic pupils had a visit from the Gordon Highlander’s Museum who shared some of their sculptures. The sculptures were brought to school by curator Ruth Duncan. This was organised by ART UK a project which aims to get real art into school and also encourages pupils to work with local artists. During the day Primary 6 and Primary 7 classes worked with Alan Herriot who is a Scottish Sculptor. His work includes Robert the Bruce, which is situated in Aberdeen City Center and a sculpture of Denis Law, which is situated at the Aberdeen Sports Village.

The project was so successful that it was covered by BBC Scotland News program The Nine and and it was also covered in the Evening Express.

Pupils created their own sculptures of Inspirational Scots and they are on display in the windows of the GP room.
