What a busy Term for Primary 7! Whilst working very hard on our Leavers Assembly we have been learning all about the NUART festival and researching such talented Scottish Artists. The class have shown so much creativity and enjoyment for this topic and were inspired by three brilliant artist visits. First visit was by Alan Herriot who showed the class his spectacular sculptures, letting the children have a go at making an inspirational Scot sculpture. Next we were visited by Jane Jenson who creates unbelievable animal and cityscape drawings with biro pen! We were all blown away by the detail and how effective the biro pen was that we had a go for ourselves. Lastly we heard from Iain McNair, a graphic designer, again inspiring and interesting to learn what a designer job entails. He discussed logos and fonts and the class got to create a font that depicted the word (hard to explain but the images will help!) Scottish Artists that inspired our own creations were Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Anne Redpath, Jack Vettriano and Gillian Kyle. After learning about the visual elements and different mediums we created a still life (watercolour and oil pastels) a cropped still life (monoprinting) an abstract tiled mosaic, and a mixed media graffiti style door.
Hazlehead Visit was also a nervous but exciting trip for those attending next year but once they got to know new people whilst taking part in fun activities, we all left feeling more relaxed and a little tired from the walking! Now we are on the topic of Secondary School I would like to wish all P7’s all the best on their next adventure. Thank you for being such a fantastic class I will miss you all! In the words of our Greatest Showman song.. be brave, be cool, High School’s where you’re meant to be, you’re ready!!
