Term 1 and 2 in P5J

Hello everyone,

What a busy few months we have had in P5J!

At the beginning of Term 1, we went to Techfest at RGU. We got to build our own lighthouses, design an oil rig and learn about how engineering has changed throughout history. The children had an amazing time and got to develop their team work and communication skills too.

We also had a fantastic Open Afternoon – thank you to all the family members that attended. We loved showing you around our classroom and sharing our learning experiences with you. The theme was STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The class were in groups and worked their way round several stations. They got to build cars and test friction on different surfaces, learn about different types of Engineering and create their own raft.

In the last week of Term 1, the whole school participated in a Livewire Engineering Week. Our class learned about different strands of Engineering whilst completing lots of fun problem solving challenges in groups.

Term 2 has been a whirlwind as we have been getting organised for all the upcoming festivities. The children thoroughly enjoyed the Dragon’s Den Enterprise topic. They were organised into groups and each given an important responsibility. They had to create a Christmas gift idea, cost the product, market the product and put together a pitch so they could sell it to a panel of Dragons. The Dragons were extremely impressed with the innovation, creativity and confident pitches. Everyone in the class got an investment!!

The children learned a lot about careers during our World of Work week. They had visitors from dentists, lawyers, engineers, podiatrists and a forensic scientist. They were really enthusiastic during this topic and got to learn a lot about different skills they would need for different jobs. Have you tried the Animal Me quiz yet?

Over the course of the final few weeks of term, we will be taking part in the Christmas Great British Bake off where children will create their very own gingerbread houses and getting organised for our Christmas Fair on the 30th November. We have been really busy creating some masterpieces for our stall so we hope to see you all there. Finally, we have been practising our songs for the Christmas Concert and we are so excited to perform them for you.

Many thanks to all,

Mrs Jones 🙂
