Term 3 in P5J

Hello everyone,

We have had a wonderful term since coming back refreshed from the Christmas break. We have been learning about Scottish Culture, namely Robert Burns and his poetry. The children also wanted to learn about the myths and legends in Scotland, they have created some wonderful poems and artwork. The children have been getting to grips with technology, creating their own moving images which were inspired by ‘Tae A Moose’. The new Google Chr ooks have been a welcome addition to Airyhall, we have been learning to use Texthelp, Google Docs omeb and Google Slides. We hope you enjoyed the Open Afternoon where you got to see what we have been up to over the course of the year.

P5J put on an unforgettable performance at the Scottish Opera. The children were AMAZING! They loved participating in this show, the costumes and movements on the stage really brought it together. Thank you for your support in helping the children to learn their words. I am one very proud teacher!

Last week, we celebrated internet safety week. The children have been learning how to ‘Be Internet Legends’. The class learned about the dangers of ‘phishing’ and how to spot suspicious activity online.

We have lots to look forward to in the remaining weeks of the term, we are currently working on our Fairtrade fortnight topic. The children are very enthusiastic about this charity. We have been writing newspaper articles and learning about chocolate and how women are supported by Fairtrade. We have also been working on Google Slides presentations to share our research. The Fairtrade football tournament has been the talk of the playground and we are looking forward to getting that started.

Our final topic will focus on Buddhism. The children will be learning about the key figures and beliefs. Their learning will be compared with Christianity in the run up to the Easter holidays.

Phew! What a busy term – can’t quite believe how quickly the term has flown by! Once again, I would like to extend my thanks to all the parents for all their support.

Mrs Jones J
